Thankful Turkies

Thanksgiving is the time of year when everyone looks back and remembers what they are thankful for. Every Monday I meet with a group of girls who have all experienced the death of a parent, either by suicide or illness. Today, we focused on discussing what we are thankful for. Sometimes during the holidays when we are still mourning the loss of a loved one, we forget that we have lots of different things in our lives to be thankful for.

Back to Work...

It has been such a long time since I have written a post and a lot has changed in the past several months. First of all on August 20th we welcomed our son Maddix James Richards. Due to complications he was born six weeks early, but after 12 days in the NICU he is a perfectly healthy baby!
Our daughter Marlee started preschool this year and she is loving it.
It has been a little overwhelming coming back to school during the busiest time of the year, basketball season but I have had lots of support and help from my family, friends, and coworkers. I am trying some new groups this year at school that I am really excited about! I am going to start a Homework Group with some 4th and 5th grade students. I am also going to start the School Attendance Matters Curriculum by Savvy School Counselor that should really help some of our students. I am glad to be back to work and ready to start my school year!!

Using Haiku Deck

In my 5th grade girls group we recently worked on making a Haiku Deck presentation on grief.  Each of the four girls in my group have experienced the loss of a parent.  These girls worked very hard on these presentations and also learned ways to help cope with their grief.

I have decided to begin a blog to capture my exciting days as a pre-school through 8th grade school social worker, well... I may not so much of made the decision on my own.  It might have been suggested to me by my building principal, but either way I am officially "blogging".  I hope to use this blog to share important information with the family and staff members at both Northside and Center Street Schools.  Thank you so much for following me on my journey.
